The Indianapolis Zoo is located in White River State Park and is one of Indiana’s most popular attractions. Since it opened in 1964 the Indianapolis Zoo has grown into a world-class facility that plays a major role in worldwide conservation and research, including accomplishing the world’s first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant.

Indianapolis Zoo Admission

Admission to the Indianapolis Zoo for adults is $15.00 and $10.25 for children ages 2-12. Children under 2 are free. For those traveling in an RV rental, the zoo has plenty of parking available and camper parking is only $10.00.

Indianapolis Zoo Exhibits

The Marine Mammals Exhibit

After finding a place to park, the first area you should head to is the marine mammal collection. Here you’ll find Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Very few zoos have the facilities to host dolphins, so be sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Bring your children down to the underwater dolphin dome. Here you’ll find a 30-foot long, fully enclosed, 12-foot-high underwater dome right in the middle of the dolphin pool. This is the very first one of these in all of the zoos in the US.

The Plains Biome Exhibit

Venture to the Plains at the Indianapolis Zoo to hand feed a giraffe. Watch out – their tongues can be quite long! Other animals you’ll get to see in the Plains include white rhinos (who snore quite loudly when asleep), African lions, cheetahs, gazelles, wildebeests, baboons, zebras, and more.

The Tiger Forest Exhibit

Check out the brand new Tiger Forest exhibit to see beautiful Amur tigers. Only glass will separate you from these incredible beasts, and you’ll be so close that you just might be able to count their whiskers! Take note of how large their front and back paws are. Several training demonstrations are offered throughout the day for the tigers.
