Words don’t do justice to seeing the majestic Mammoth Cave system in person. Part of the world’s largest known cave system, Mammoth Cave is an experience unlike any other. The greater Mammoth Cave National Park is visited by outdoor enthusiasts, families, and school groups year after year. Just a short drive from our Louisville, KY location, Mammoth Cave National Park is a destination that comes highly recommended by us at Greenwood RV Rentals & Sales.

Things to Do

Most people come to see the caves, and we don’t blame you. Take your time underground, and see all that the Mammoth Cave system has to offer, including ranger-led cave tours. However, you can easily spend a few days at Mammoth Cave National Park with all the other activities it offers above ground:

  • Bike trails
  • Fishing
  • Canoeing or kayaking
  • Swimming
  • Horseback riding
  • Picnicking
  • Hiking

You will also want to bring your camera because Mammoth Cave National Park has many photo opportunities. (Note, however, that flash photography is not permitted in the caves.)

Mammoth Cave National Park is located off Interstate 65 in Kentucky, in (aptly named) Mammoth Cave, KY. Operating hours are seasonal, so be sure to check the Mammoth Cave National Park website for most current information. The park itself is free to enter, as are most of the activities, except for cave tours, camping, and picnic shelter reservations. They offer about 15 different cave tours, all of which focus on a different aspect of the Mammoth Cave system. Cave tour rates are available on the Mammoth Cave website, and you can also make tour reservations online. Be sure to book both your RV rental campsite and your cave tours in advance, because same-day reservations are not allowed.

Where to Stay

Your best bet is to stay at the park itself. Mammoth Cave National Park has three separate campground areas, but only the main Mammoth Cave campground accommodates RV rentals. The campground is complete with motorhome rental hookups, a dump station, public restrooms, showers, campground store, outdoor grills, laundry facilities, and more.
