Brown County State Park
Brown County State Park

The beginning of the school year can be a whirlwind for most families. As homework piles up and activities kick in, everyone needs a getaway by the time fall break rolls around. Not everyone can get away for a fantastic weekend at the beach, but you can still have a great time with a mini-vacation at any one of these destinations near Indianapolis. All you need is a motorhome rental from Greenwood RV Rentals & Sales, and you’ll be off on a fall adventure with your family.

1. Brown County State Park

Brown County, IN, is simply breathtaking in the fall. Many people choose Brown County State Park or the greater Nashville, IN, area as a top destination within driving distance of Indianapolis. You can enjoy leisurely evenings by the campfire, go hiking, explore the artistic shops of downtown Nashville, and much more. Brown County is located about an hour and a half south of Indianapolis.

2. Clifty Falls State Park

If you head southeast of Indy for about two hours, you’ll find one of our favorite state parks and places to set up our campers: Clifty Falls. Like Brown County, you can enjoy campfires and hiking, but you can also find some pretty beautiful landscapes (complete with cascading waterfalls). You can also spend some time exploring nearby historic Madison, IN.

3. Turkey Run State Park

Heading due west from Indianapolis, it will take you about an hour and a half to get to Turkey Run State Park in Marshall, IN. This park features some pretty amazing rock formations and sandstone ravines. You’ll definitely want to take advantage of their hiking trails, and while it’s likely too cold to go tubing, you can still enjoy Sugar Creek by fishing. The park also features a saddle barn, so you and your family can enjoy a guided trail ride on horseback.

All these state parks make great places for families to enjoy the fall break. Because tent camping can get a little chilly this time of year, you may want to consider one of our RVs, travel trailers, or pop-up campers—all of which have furnace options if the nights turn too cold for comfort.
